GMAT Overview

The Graduate Management Admissions Test is a computer based standardized test. It measures the Verbal, Mathematical, Analytical, Writing and Reading skills in written English for use in admission to graduate management program, such as MBA in many of the world’s leading business schools.

Taking GMAT test is the first step towards a great career. This test makes the test taker noticeable and shows the schools that student is serious enough about a graduate business education.

GMAT score is probably the most important factor determining whether you will be admitted to the top business school.

The GMAT exam consists of four sections: An analytical writing assessment, integrated reasoning, the quantitative section, and the verbal section.

The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) measures the ability to think critically and to communicate the ideas. During the AWA, one is asked to analyze the reasoning behind a given argument and write a critique of that argument. The student is given 30 minutes for this essay .The scoring of this is on the scale of 0-6. The essay is evaluated manually and then sent into automated essay –scoring engine.

The Integrated Reasoning Section measures the ability to evaluate the information presented in multiple formats from multiple sources- skills which are needed to succeed in technologically advanced, data driven world. The questions involve interpretation of graphs, tables and other written information.

The Quantitative section measures the ability to analyze data and draw conclusion using reasoning skills. This section contains two types of MCQs related to the area of Data Sufficiency and Problem solving. The level of maths is as of taught in secondary schools class but the level of reasoning is quite high. Candidates are not allowed to use calculator in the exam.

The questions in Verbal section measures the ability to understand, analyze and apply information and concepts presented in written form. This section contains three types of questions from Critical reasoning, reading comprehension and sentence correction field.

Total testing time is three and a half hours, but test takers should plan for a total time of approximately four hours, with breaks.
