What is GED Test?

The GED, General Educational Development or General Education Diploma, is for those without a High School Diploma. It's equivalent to American High School (10+2) that you can pass within 3-4 months. GED is a set of tests that when passed certify the test taker has met high-school level academic skills. More than 17 million people have received a GED Credential since the program began in 1943. Many government institutions and universities regard the GED as the same as a high school diploma with respect to program eligibility and as a prerequisite for admissions.

The GED Testing Program is used to certify high school-level knowledge and skills, and allows adults to prove what they know. The test provides a uniform measure of high school achievement, and is globally recognized as a measure of high school knowledge and skills. Upon passing the GED Tests, examinees receive a State High School Diploma. The GED Tests measure communication, information-processing, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills in four content areas: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies.

Understanding your scores

Your GED® test score provides an estimate of your knowledge and skill in each content area compared to that of recent high school graduates. You should have two different scores on each content area: standard score and percentile rank.

STANDARD SCORE

Ranges from 200 to 800 and compares your performance in a content area to the performance of a graduating high school senior. The average standard score is 500 for each content area, but a minimum of 450 is required to pass.

PERCENTILE RANK

Ranges from 1 to 99 and indicates the percentage of graduating high school seniors who earned scores at or below your test score. Percentile rank of 54 means that 54 percent of graduating high school seniors earned your score or lower.
